Formaldehyde which is an air pollutant is used in manufacturing of different products such as

• glue and adhesive (e.g. in furniture and automotive industries)


• cosmetic products


• dyestuff and lacquer

Approximately 21 Mio t formaldehyde is produced every year.

According to the press release of WHO (World Health Organization), published in June 2004, formaldehyde causes cancer.
Also the BfR, Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (German Institute of Risk Assessment), now classifies the stuff as carcinogenic.
